Finding
and Expressing Your Beingness
“Joy is not in things. It is in us.” Richard Wagner
It’s
not about doing something of value. It’s not about creating or producing, however worthwhile these might be.
What is important is getting in touch with your Beingness, your essence, your inner Spirit, and then expressing
this to the world. If you get this part right, the rest will fall into place. Strive to express your unique
spark, touching other souls with that part of you that mirrors God. Do not ask: What should I do? But rather
ask: Who must I be? Who am I? Under the conditionings, old beliefs and assumptions, locate that authentic self
hiding within and bring him or her out into the world. This is what our world is waiting for! Divine souls
blessing this world with their essence.
Once
you find your true inner self, your outer life will reflect this. There is no struggle. There are no masks. It
is pure honesty, love and joy.
It’s
also not about where you are physically. It doesn’t matter if you’re in a prison cell or on a deck overlooking
the Bali Sea, because you are there! You could be in a tiny, uncomfortable flat in the middle of a huge city or
in a villa in the Mediterranean. Your essence is within you, not in any external place, no matter how beautiful
or tranquil it may be.
“Wherever my travels may lead, paradise is where I
am” (Voltaire).
So,
do not waste time going places, searching for the Holy Grail. Instead, remain right where you are and seek that
which is within.
There
is a wellspring of fresh living water within, that when tapped into, bubbles up with joy, happiness, peace and
fulfilment. This is why we can be anywhere in the world: on a Greek Island or in a prison cell, in Paradise or
in a ghetto....if we stay connected to our inner spirit moment to moment, we will remain in peace. What is this
Inner Spirit? It is our Being, the source of who we are, our essence. Most of us live our lives from our
conditioned or lower self. Some label this our ego self.
Let’s
look at the difference between our Being and our Ego or Lower self. As you read the qualities of each, ask
yourself, where am I spending most of my energy, in my Being or in my Ego?
Ego
Self: “Conditioned/Lower self”
Your
lower self is needy, helpless, weak and afraid most of the time. It doubts, worries, and becomes disappointed,
resentful and controlling. It often sees things through tunnel vision, and will defend, block and stay secure
rather than move forward into the unknown. It resists the exploration of things outside of our comfort zone,
wanting security above all else.
The
Essence of Being: “Source of who we are”
Your
higher self is quite different. It comes from a place of high self worth, self trust and forgiveness of self and
others, knowing that we all are doing the best we can. It is joyful, alive, vibrant and playful, full of
courage, optimism, hope, gratitude and love. Your essence is loving, kind, generous, accepting and full of
compassion, wisdom and truth. It sees challenges and hardships as lessons and opening of possibilities and it
flows with the now.
Authentic Happiness can be found in your Being, not in Doing or Having.
Can
you see that nothing outside of you can change the inner self? If you are not at peace and happy within, then no
amount of change on the outside will help. You can try to change
your house, your partner, the city or town you live in, the job you do, or the friends you have. And you can try
buying something new, maybe a new TV or laptop, a new car or outfit. You can even try changing your body through
surgery and creating a new nose, a more beautiful bustline or a less flabby stomach. None of these things will
bring any lasting happiness or peace or joy. It all lies within. Are you happy, fulfilled, peaceful and joyful
right now? Do you not know that these things cannot be found in the material external world? This is the great
mystery of life. “The secret,” if you like. It’s all there inside of you waiting to be tapped into. No need to
go anywhere, do anything, please anyone, prove anything. You just need to turn inward and find the pearl there.
What you are searching for has always been there, just beneath the surface, within your very being. You have
simply forgotten where to look.
That
which you want, you already own. It reminds me of the story of the woman who lost a gold necklace and then spent
her whole life searching for it until one day someone pointed at her neck and asked, “What’s that hanging around
your neck?” We have the gold right here, the treasure, the Kingdom of Heaven, as close as our heart. We just
have forgotten that it’s there and so we go in search of it in churches, gurus, an external God, meditation,
yoga, workshops, prayer circles.
We
only need to turn inward to that deep well of living water. No place, no person, no guru, no outer God will fill
the emptiness we feel. It is only me that can fill it. Only Me. The beautiful pearl within.
“You
are already what you are seeking.” Adyashanti
Accept
life as it is right this moment. Accept what comes and what goes. Surrender to life. You can’t control what
happens to you. You can only control how you react or respond. This is the lesson.
We
can be at peace no matter what is happening around us, if we learn the art of connecting with the now and
allowing our joy to bubble up. Nothing in your life needs to change other than your perception of it! Discover
the pearl that is you and live in that awareness and you will no longer be under the control of situations or
other people and their behaviour.
This is a beautiful video about looking within, into your heart, to find fulfillment. I am not a follower of
any religion or book or guru. I only follow my heart and feel what is true.
Enjoy....
