Daily Inventory of Accomplishments & Other Positive
Things!
This exercise is really
helpful if you are the type of person that brushes over the good in your life and focusses on the negatives.
Sometimes we forget how many times in the day something positive actually happened. Or we forget that
we accomplished something worthwhile (even if it was a task or job we didn't like). We also brush aside
compliments that others pay us. If you are on a path of self discovery and personal growth, it's really
important to start appreciating yourself more and patting yourself on the back when you do positive things.
This will increase your sense of self worth and self-esteem. As you feel better about yourself, you will
automatically pass this on to those around you.
Keep an
Inventory
During the day, pay
attention to the things you achieve or accomplish, even if they seem small. Look for goals you have met,
things you are proud of, little successes. Look for things you
do that reinforce your good qualities and write them in your journal. Also, listen for cues from those around you (bosses, friends, children,
strangers, shop assistants, etc). When someone says or does something that focuses on a positive quality of
yours, write it down. Keeping a written record of the positive things about you is a great way to combat your
inner critic. Remember that the critic discounts our positives and focuses on our negatives. On days when you
are feeling down on yourself, pull out your journal and read the things you have recorded as a way of
reminding you that you do have lots of good qualities.
Examples of
Accomplishments and Other Positive Things!
Here are some ideas of the
kinds of things you might write in your journal or notebook. Some of them may seem small or insignificant,
but, overall, they demonstrate what kind of person you are. They are there to remind you of the
positives in your life.
